    a very important tip

a very important tip Check before you go that the palace gardens are in fact open to the public on the day you intend to go, because like so many other places worth visiting, they do not advertise the CLOSURES, as clearly as one would sometime hope

Great, very relaxing walking about the gardens.

Great, very relaxing walking about the gardens. If you want to guarantee a chance on the tour show up 2hrs before the start (9:30 or 13:30). They only allow 140 people in per day. If you want walk around and enjoy the gardens try get there before 9am, it gets quite crowded after 10.

The park is nice to walk or jog around, but when it comes down to it, there is not much to see aside from a few walls. The palace grounds are only occasionally open to the public. I recommend skipping this unless you are in the area.

Not worth visiting for too long.

Not worth visiting for too long. The part of the park that can be visited is nice (perhaps better in autumn), but not as scenic as some others in the city (like Rikugien or Hamarikyu). One cannot get too close to the actual buildings and the overall site is rather far stretched, so it takes a bit of time to see it. There are other sights offering more value for time (from my perspective), as for instance Meiji jingu.

There are 2 that we saw.

There are 2 that we saw. The palace in Kyoto (the original) is all but closed. You can walk around the grounds and see the outsides of the buildings but that's it. Considering everything else we say this was a let down. The Tokyo palace is of course active so you can't actually get to the actual palace. Nice area, nice gardens, it's worth a walk around.
