Yes it is basic, yes you have a cold shower, yes you share the bathroom but you cannot beat the location.

This is an excellent hostel. It's location is perfect for the old town, with all key sights within walking distance. The hostel itself is very comfortable and this is made more so by the staff who are always cheerful and happy to help. the breakfast provided is of a high standard and the roof terrace with jacuzzi makes even a day with some downtime at the hostel a pleasant one. I highly recommend a stay here.

Hostal Casa de las Americas features air-conditioned rooms in the Getsemani district of Cartagena de Indias. The property is situated 2.2 km from Cartagena's Walls, 2.6 km from Cartagena's Gold... The location was a very easy walking distance to all sites in the old city. The room was simple but comfortable and very clean. What sets this place apart is the tremendous service by the owner, David. David was incredibly friendly and helpful with whatever arrangements I needed.

Everything about it is amazing. The beds are super comfortable, the facilities are clean, bathrooms feel very luxurious. The rooftop and the pizza are amazing. The location is really great when you plan to go on boat trips, because it’s super close to where the boats leave. I really like the location in general.
