Very comfortable, and large shared facilities. The host was very friendly, and we had a long chat with some of the guests i the beautiful dining area. It had windows on all sides including the ceiling, so it was really enjoyable.

Peaceful small town with rich and fascinating history, namely it's fishing industry and near annihilation by a volcano. I recommend hiking over and to the top of the volcano and visiting the volcano museum.

The ferry to get to the island was immaculately clean and ran on time both ways. While a smaller boat for such open seas, the sailing was still good and not too rough! The island itself was picturesque and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Such a beautiful island! The landscape is absolutely unreal.
Such a beautiful island! The landscape is absolutely unreal. Hiking the volcano and then visiting the museum is a must. We saw puffins on the outlook just past the golf course! (ie didn't need to take the bus tour to the southern tip of the island to see them). Vigtin bakery is delicious, as well as Tanginn for dinner. Check out Brothers Brewery for a good drink! Super easy to get around on foot, and the ferry was perfect! A must see in Iceland!

Vestmanneayar is a beautiful, self-contained fishing village...
Vestmanneayar is a beautiful, self-contained fishing village that also caters nicely to tourists. It is located on the island of Heimaey. Getting there is challenging but well worth it. The best way is to rent a car in Reykjavik and drive 2 hours to Landeyjahofn on the south coast. Leave the car there (I found no need for a car on the island) and take the ferry out to the island. Two or three days is sufficient to see everything on Heimaey. Bike rental, e-scooter and hiking are the best ways to get around. I was able to bike the length of the island with several stops in about 2 hours. It's hilly- what do you expect it's a volcano. Great opportunities to view wild life and spend time outside. The views cannot be beat. Food is excellent but (like the rest of Iceland) a bit expensive. The public pool/ hot tubs are a great way to end a physically taxing day.

What a beautiful island!
What a beautiful island! We took the tour with EyjaTours and it was so informative. The island holds so much rich history, and the scenery is gorgeous. We were able to see the puffins, as well as learn about volcanoes.

As soon as we arrived by ferry, we went hiking, then dinner at Gott, then puffin watching. Unfortunately we were not in the right place to see the true puffin colony (keep going up that road!) but we enjoyed what we did get to see.
Vestmannaeyjar was an absolutely charming town and so was our stay with Guesthouse Hamar! The room was lovely. Large enough for 3 of us and our luggage. The facilities were clean, and I loved the decor style. The view of the town from our window was spectacular - especially the volcanoes! The location was perfect as the town is fairly small and very walkable.
Great luxury accommodation in a good location in Vestmannaeyjar. Very beautiful view by the sea. High-quality house and excellent and well selected all furnishings and equipment. Good quality beds and sheets. There is no reception on arrival or departure. You will be sent a key code. You just call if you need other services. Everything was acceptable
This little apartment is adorable! Has a beautiful view of the islands surrounding Heimaey as well :) We received messages from the host that were very welcoming and kind, they were happy to help with anything we could have needed. We only stayed one night, but would have loved to stay longer if we could have!
I booked the hostel with mixed feelings because of the very different reviews. Looking back I need to say that I definitely do not share the bad ones. Instead I would say that the accommodation is a typical good hostel and as long as you do not expect hotel services you will be fine there.
Great location, incredible views when we woke up, and only a 5 minute drive from the ferry. Close to lots of other things in the area. There were adjustable radiators in the cabins and they were easy to use. Each was equipped with a mini-fridge and plenty of outlets. Good for the price.
It is such a cool place to stay! It is unlike any other hotel or hostel that I have ever stayed in. You get your very own capsule that feels out of this world. The staff were super friendly and accommodating for our needs. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting in the area!
The house looks scary from the outside and we felt it looked like a haunted house. Inside is a little better. The inside is in the making. Bring a face mask, the curtains are too transparent (normally Icelandic hotels provide opaque curtains given the long summer nights).
nice location in town but the town is small regardless. easy parking across the street. the breakfast at the attached restaurant was good but no fresh fruit which would have been nice. lots of dried fruits available however.
Well located hotel with a common kitchen and a small terrace. We stayed in a family room (5 single beds). Of course it is not huge but it was ok for a night. Bathroom was fine. Facilities were clean and welcoming.
friendly host, comfortable room, generous kitchen and sitting room with netflix, close to swimming pool and walk to coast via golf course; less than an hour to walk up Eldfell, stroll into town; thanks Arny!
The accommodation was inexpensive and enabled me to stay in Vestmannaeyjar at short notice. It was well situated in a central location. It was a new and very different experience to stay in a capsule hotel.
Location for exploring Heimaey town and island excellent. The communication was fine and the check in easy. The apartment was very clean and it was so useful to have washing machine and drier to use.
GREAT location with absolutely stunning views. This cottage is well-equipped with everything you need. It's perfect for a small weekend in the Westman Islands. Walkable to town, and truly a treat.
