Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

Oban is an absolutely beautiful coastal town with great access to the rest of the Highlands. The ferries were very easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring the Isle of Mull and travelling past the Isle of Kerrera on the way. Also make sure to head towards Dunollie Castle and take the tour round - a great time if you enjoy history or stories of the clans.
All of the food establishments that we went to were delicious and had great options. Highly recommend the ceilidh dancing on a Monday and Thursday night as it was a cracking time.

Oban is a great base to explore the wider area or where you start you exploration of the islands. Lots of great pubs and restaurants. Good shopping facilities nearby if doing a self catering holiday m.
This is a very nice family style hotel with great views of the water. Room was comfortable, nice bathroom and a walkout balcony with a table and chairs and a terrific view of the water and bridge. Very quiet. They are located about 12 min. from Oban and an ideal location for us. Oban can be a bit hectic. Breakfasts were absolutely wonderful with a wide variety of choices and fixed to order. We ate 2 evening meals in the dinning room and they were delicious. The dinning room looks out over a beautiful lawn and water.
Room was comfortable and quiet. Window opened for plenty of air and a pretty garden view. The bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows, as well as an additional throw blanket in case of chill. Bathroom was immaculate, good sized shower. It was exactly what we wanted for our stay, a reasonably priced, nicely comfortable room.
And the breakfast for the additional charge was really worth it! We stayed at a 4 star hotel in Glasgow the night previously, and the Maridon House breakfast was better and cost less than half!
Nothing., the hotel was a disgrace, if I were booking.com I would remove it from the site. Among other stuff there was a rentakill box under the bed with a dead slater beside it, we spoke to the owner but total waste of time. He would not refund us .so we moved to another hotel and lost half of our money ,but no way were we sleeping in that we had our friends with us so two room,s were booked for £237 ridiculous. Booking.com at least refunded someI .would stay well clear of this Hotel.
Super clean and comfortable apartment in a great location to walk around Oban. Our host Fiona communicated with us easily. The amenities available in the apartment were generous and greatly appreciated. We arrived in Scotland on the day of check-in and drove all day from Edinburgh to Oban. There was coffee, water, and tea available for us as well as fruit and snacks. The beds were all comfortable, and there was sufficient bedding. Thank you, Fiona, for a great stay!
First time in our 2weeks in Scotland that a porter kindly offered to carry our cases to our room on the first floor. The receptionist was exceptionally helpful. Breakfast and the service was good and well organized. The bed was comfortable. There was a restaurant that served evening meals and food of good quality. Although the hotel was situated near a main road, we were not disturbed by noise. The ferry terminal was close by.
Everything!… this hotel is perfect in every way… if you are lucky enough to be near Oban this is the only place you will want to stay!… the hotel is beautifully decorated, the rooms are spacious and the bed was exceptionally comfortable… the bathroom was fabulous… the evening meal and breakfast was delicious and all the staff are super friendly and helpful…

The staff have been so helpful my daughter had an accident in the hotel and staff were fantastic they got a first aid person to her and couldn't do enough. The room we were given after the mix up was beautiful and lovely and clean. The food is good we would stay again as it is very close to Oban
Great views, location and services. Room and bathroom were very comfortable. The hotel was full and had enough space to park car at the front or at the back. The room that we rented with views overlooking the sea was something very special, as was Oban in its whole.
This was our first time in Oban & the hotel was good, great views, close to ferry terminal, station & bus links. Handy for shops, bars & eating out. The room was clean & today nice & warm for an October stay staff were friendly & helpful
