Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Lincoln is two towns, a lower one which is like many towns in England and an upper town, which is special. At the centre is a square across which the cathedral and castle face one another. The cathedral is so large and impressive that it dominates everything else

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence).
With the cafe on site we spent a very full morning seeing everything - allow 4 hours to do it justice.

Lincoln is an underrated city - it has an amazing Cathedral and Castle, which are well worth a visit. Steep Hill is only for the fit, but worth it if you can. Lovely small shops and cafés line the route, so you can have a break if you wish. Also, you can visit free of charge art galleries like the Usher Gallery (Turner paintings). The people of Lincolnshire are very friendly and this is why I live here!

Good Things:
Staff were very nice and helpful.
Location was great, close to lots of places.
Bad Things:
No slippers in room even though I asked for them.
Breakfast was not good, not enough food.
Bathroom and toilet were too small
The staff were really friendly, but there were some problems too. I asked for slippers but never got them. The breakfast did not have much choice. And the bathroom felt cramped because it was so tiny.
The location was convenient at least, making it easy to walk around. Overall an okay stay, but could have been better if the issues with amenities were fixed

Lincoln is a good place to visit with a lot of history to look around. The cathedral area is walkable from the newer centre albeit up Steep Hill which as it's name suggests is tiring but worth it. There is a bus that goes from the bottom end of the city to the cathedral area.
Room was nicely decorated, the pool and spa facilities were good, the bar was a really lovely area, we didnt eat in restaurant so cant say but looked nice. We used hotel as base to see lincoln which was short drive away, or was bus stop we noticed directly outside hotel on main road into city centre.
We did wander over to the brewers fayre pub to sit outside in garden there as weather was lovely and next door so convenient.
Hotel looks better inside than the rather dated, tatty, outside of it.
The room was lovely. Carpet was lovely and fluffy, beautiful curtains. The mattress was the best I've slept on in a hotel for a while. Breakfast was lovely although I wasn't a fan of the Lincolnshire sausages but hubs soon cleared them off lol!! The manager was friendly and helpful. The hotel position is great for the castle and cathedral. Car park very close and only £9 for 24hrs. Will definitely be staying again hopefully won't leave it 7 years til our next visit.
The room was clean, well equipped and comfortable enough for our needs with a pleasurable view over the wharf / marina area. With a five minute walk from Lincoln city centre, this hotel boasts many benefits. A choice of restaurants within a very short walking distance. The hotel itself offers a very comprehensive breakfast range which did not fall short of excellence.
The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. A massive well done to the team.
We’ve stayed in this hotel for a number of years when visiting Lincoln. We love it’s waterfront location close to the bars, restaurants and shops of the city centre. When visiting, we often go to the cinema which is just a few minutes walk from the hotel The lovely old town is a short but challenging walk away. We’ve usually managed to get a space in the hotel car park. Decent breakfast and loved the warm cookies on check in.
I loved how cozy and clean the room was. It has even a small fridge in the room. I travel a lot and even some big hotels don't have that.
The location is perfect, very close to the city centre. I used to live in Lincoln and I didn't know this beautiful house before. I would recommend it 100% and I would stay there if I need a place to stay when I come back again.
The room was clean, well appointed, comfortable and warm. Needed to book in at the pub rather than the hotel on arrival.
The pub next door was great for an evening meal, even though we hadn't pre booked. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not cheap, but was hearty.
For a night away, on the outskirts of Lincoln you could do much worse, we would go again.
Lovely hotel in the Bailgate, perfect location a stones throw from the castle, cathedral and steep hill. Very comfortable bed, clean and tidy room beautifully decorated. I've stayed in this hotel before and will use it again, breakfast's great with a variety of choices. I frequently come to Lincoln and stay over when picking up/dropping off my daughter.
All of the staff at the hotel and restaurant were wonderful, very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and so was our dinner, which we had included in the room rate. There was a lovely outdoor terrace for afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks. The hotel was located in a pretty village and was only a short drive from Lincoln city centre.
Amazing location we could hear the Cathedral bells and it was a two minute walk to the castle. The place had everything we needed to cook meals and a comfortable bed. The patio was lovely and would have been even better if the weather had cooperated! The parking spot in Lincoln is a huge plus.
The bar and staff were excellent very good service and the restaurant was exceptional the food delicious. There was musical entertainment that capped a perfect day. Additionally the hotel was in the center right next to the Cathedral making walking to see things easy.
Excellent location. Staff really helpful and upbeat. Breakfast good with excellent service. Our son used pool and said if was good. Enjoyed Whisby country park which is less than mile away, when not touring Lincoln city centre.
Breakfast was great - a nice selection of everything continental! The location of the hotel was perfect for a weekend away in Lincoln due to being located a short walk away from the city centre. A really nice, historic hotel!
The staff couldn't have been any more helpful and obliging felt like a home away from home and having never been to Lincoln before it was so easy to find a short walk down the canal and you're there. A lovely stay
Lovely hotel in a great location, all the staff were friendly, so helpful and professional. A very well run hotel. Breakfast was excellent.
Best place to stay in Lincoln town centre with parking too!
